If you drop something, it falls on the ground under the influence of Earth’s gravity. Some objects fall more quickly than others, the reason for this is the air resistance. Let’s investigate more about it and make an air resistance experiment and jeopardize a few eggs.

You will need:
3 eggs
2 garbage bins
Ruler
Scissors
Tape
Cut garbage bin in half and lay it on the floor.

Using a ruler, measure out three squares – 20*20 cm, 30*30 cm and 40*40 cm.

Cut them out. Make a hole for the thread in each corner of the square.  Attach each square to the egg with the thread. Wrap the knots with the tape to strengthen them. This can be tricky, so that ask adults to help you.

Start with a small parachute and throw the egg from a height of not less than 3 meters.
Check if it is survived.

Note: in the process, you can make a mess. Be prepared to clean up everything.
After you can try to make small holes in the parachute and see what will change.

How it works:
Air resistance is another word for braking. It is the force, with which the air slows the objects, moving through it. The larger the surface of the moving object, the greater the resistance of the air and the quicker the object slows. Adding a parachute to the eggs, you create a larger surface of resistance. Consequently, the egg with the largest parachute will fall so slowly, that it can remain intact.
